Something odd is going on with Bentley's new face-lifted Flying Spur. On the one hand, the talk is of massively improved refinement levels, better ride quality, improved mpg figures and CO2 numbers. All entirely admirable, and all brilliant.
But then it's also gone and launched a Flying Spur Speed version, replicating what happened with the Conti GT Speed a year ago when that car was face-lifted. In the Conti GT, the Speed version is a pricey way of getting the best out of your Conti, but it suits that car. Granted, it's a GT car, but there's an element of a sports car in it. In the Flying Spur, there isn't. It's a saloon, albeit a very grand one, and no amount of ceramic braking will change that.
